This is a one-year course designed to help students gain a foundation for college-level English writing. The emphasis will be put on the role of reading, the mastery of grammatical categories and structure, and the process and method of writing. During the semester, the course covers the fundamental aspects of academic writing, including the basic elements of the paragraph, the control of sentence structure and accuracy, several different writing patterns, the mechanics and format of writing, and the issues concerning citation and plagiarism. Students will participate in interactive workshops in class to practice prewriting, writing, revising, editing, peer editing, and proofreading.
